Backstage Chats: AI in Arts and Culture

A practical, no-judgement conversation about where arts and culture stands on AI right now – whether you've already started experimenting or haven't written a AI policy yet. Come compare notes, ask the questions you haven't found answers to, and leave with a clearer sense of where to start.

A promoter sends you a poster image. It's polished, on-brand, exactly what you asked for. It's also, unmistakably, AI-generated. Do you use it?

That's the kind of question arts and culture teams are already facing, often without a policy, a precedent, or anyone else to ask. This Backstage Chat is where we ask those questions in a safe space alongside people working through the same grey areas: copyright, image use, and what to put in writing when the technology itself keeps changing.

Whether you've already started experimenting with AI or you're quietly hoping someone else writes the policy first, you're in the right place.

What to expect

Like all Backstage Chats, this is an open conversation that you can steer – where to start, the genuine opportunities on offer, and the concerns worth taking seriously. We hope those further along in their AI journey will share what they've learned so far.

With Hubby, our CTO and resident AI researcher, on hand throughout, you've got a direct line to answer the questions you haven't been able to find good answers to elsewhere. If you want a preview of his thinking, he's written about why CultureSuite is approaching AI with caution.

Leave with a clearer starting point – for the policy, the working practices, the safeguards, and how to research AI suppliers.

Moderators

Kelly Enderwick, Community and Partnership Lead‍

Kelly works directly with venues across the CultureSuite Community to help them get the most from their websites. She'll be moderating the session and keeping the conversation flowing.

Hubby, Chief Technology Officer‍

Hubby leads technology at CultureSuite and spent years as an award-winning songwriter and musician before moving into tech – giving him a foot on both sides of the AI debate. He's researched the ethical, environmental and security implications of AI in depth, and will be on hand throughout to answer your questions.

“What I like about CultureSuite is the approach—the learnings they get from lots and lots of cultural organisations, bringing that into a central platform so they can make the changes that we all benefit from, rather than everything being customised and bespoke.”

Paul Callaghan
Chair of Sunderland Music, Arts and Culture Trust
