We’re thrilled to introduce Busi (they/them), our new Customer Success Manager! We sat down with them to find out more about them and why they want to contribute to the arts and culture sector. Lets dive in.
Hi Busi. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you did before joining CultureSuite?
"Hi! Obviously you know my name but I’m Busi! Before CultureSuite I actually worked in the culture sector already, at a cultural non-profit. But before that, I studied Literary and Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam (can you tell I like Arts & Culture yet?)"
What enticed you to join CultureSuite?
"Everything about culture excites me, the people, the art, the message: EVERYTHING! I was born into a family full of artists and throughout my studies and career I have experienced all sides of this sector (the good, the bad, and the ugly). In all of this, though, CultureSuite stood out to me as actually making a difference in the sector–something that is rare in our day and age (especially when it comes to culture, the dominant narrative is one of budget cuts and compromise etc)."
What’s your earliest experience of arts and culture? And how did it influence who you are today?
"The house I grew up in doubled as my parents' art studio! So I’ve always been surrounded by creation, but I think my earliest “special” memory was a live drawing session my father did at an event. He invited my older brother and I to each take up a corner of his very large canvas at this event. I must have been 5 years old at the time, but as I was drawing a little dancing monster (I think I was very much into Michael Jackson at the time), I felt the independence that creativity granted me. I could create whatever I wanted, and I think I still carry that sense of independence with me."
How would you like to help the sector in your new role?
"I think the Peppered software is so incredibly unique in the way it gives our community the tools to streamline their websites as they see fit, I would love to help in that independence. To make sure that they know and are validated in their own abilities (with the help of our Peppered Consultants if need be of course!)."
What do you enjoy doing outside of your role at CultureSuite?
"I love annoying my senior dog, Shila! She’s a little old lady with the attitude of a royal feline, which I usually respect and love! But sometimes it’s too much fun to bother her just a little bit. I also love writing essays, poetry and immersing myself in literary fiction and video games. A good series binge is also always welcome."
What is the most interesting thing that’s ever happened to you?
"I once innocently posted a picture of me wearing a plus-size brand on my Instagram story, and a year later I was asked to be in their summer campaign! At the time, I had never done any modeling work, but it really solidified that I want to do that on the side as well! Since then I have also modelled for other small brands and walked in a fashion show. So not only am I a Customer Success Manager, I am also a part-time model."
